Andalus, Glasgow
Unity Family Services hosted Overcoming the Past: Part 2 – Healing Together at Andalus, Glasgow — and what an unforgettable afternoon it was.
The event was completely sold out, with attendees joining us from across Glasgow and beyond. The atmosphere in the room was one of openness, reflection, and a shared commitment to growth. From the very beginning, it was clear that this was more than just a panel discussion — it was a space for connection, honesty, and collective healing.
A Powerful Line-Up of Speakers
We were honoured to host an exceptional panel of speakers, each bringing a unique perspective on generational trauma, healing, and personal growth:
- Dr Sahira Dar explored how generational trauma manifests in both clinical and everyday life, unpacking themes such as migration, identity, and the importance of awareness in breaking cycles.
- Nadeem Ishaque offered a deeply insightful look into the emotional lives of young men, highlighting inherited burdens, silent wounds, and the transformative potential of faith-informed healing.
- Shaykh Amer Jamil joined us later in an online session and brought a faith-centred lens to trauma, guiding attendees through how suffering can be reframed into purpose, strength, and deeper connection. He also addressed questions we were unable to cover during the event, giving attendees time to reflect on the panel discussion and return with more considered questions the following week.
- Faiza Yousaf delivered a powerful session on relationships and generational patterns in marriage, helping attendees understand how early experiences shape the way we give and receive love.
Each speaker combined professional expertise with lived insight, creating a programme that resonated deeply with attendees.
Meaningful Conversations & Community Impact
The panel discussion and Q&A created space for honest and sometimes difficult conversations — around identity, family dynamics, cultural expectations, and healing within our communities. Attendees engaged thoughtfully, asking reflective questions and sharing their own experiences.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing a strong desire for more events like this, with repeated requests for this session to be delivered again.
Looking Ahead
Due to the high demand and incredible feedback, we are actively exploring plans to run this event again and continue creating spaces that centre healing, understanding, and community wellbeing.
This event reaffirmed something we strongly believe:
healing begins when we come together.
We extend our sincere thanks to our speakers, attendees, and everyone who contributed to making this event such a success.
