Shaykh Amer Jamil

Shaykh Amer was born and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland.  After graduating from Strathclyde University with an LLB (Bachelor in Law), he spent ten years studying the Arabic language and Islamic Sciences.  During this period he obtained a BA (Hons) in Islamic Sciences from the University of Wales and then strengthened his studies by studying for six years with renowned scholars in the Middle-East (Syria and Yemen). He has studied with numerous distinguished scholars from a range of different schools of thought.  His balanced studies in both secular and religious arenas give him a combination of sound scholarship with a profound understanding of society.  His main field of interest is primarily Islamic family law, an area in which he has studied in depth having studied all four schools of Islamic jurisprudence (Hanafi and Hanbali schools in Syria, Shafi and Maliki schools in Yemen). He has advised local Scottish law firms on Muslim family law and has been called as an Islamic family law expert witness in court.

In addition, his further qualifications include: 

  • Certificate in counselling skills accredited by COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland)
  • Certified practitioner of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and TIME Techniques.

In 2007 he authored the booklet What Islam Really Says About Domestic Abuse, supported by the Scottish Government and Strathclyde Police, in which he helped shatter the myth that Islam allowed domestic abuse. It was translated into 5 languages with 8000 copies distributed to the Police, women’s groups, Social Work and other relevant agencies.

In 2009 he co-founded the Solas Foundation and with his partner Shaykh Ruzwan Muhammad, established the iSyllabus Islamic studies program; a one year comprehensive Islamic studies course. He is currently the project director of the programme.

In 2010 he launched a national campaign on raising awareness and tackling domestic abuse in the Muslim community. This was covered in media: BBC News – Domestic abuse campaign targets mosques in Scotland and Herald Scotland – Imams urged to condemn domestic abuse.

Ustadh ​Shoket Aksi

Scottish born Ustadh Shoket Aksi studied Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia and then pursued his studies in Islamic Law for four years at the European Institute of Human Sciences in France.

As an Islamic teacher and youth worker who has been working in the Scottish Muslim communities for over 40 years, he has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge. His experience includes working with families and couple relationships.

He has a background in foundational Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).

Sumbla Qureshi

Sumbla is a renowned parenting coach whose career spanning thirty years has been dedicated to transformative work with families. Her faith-principled methodology is uncomplicated yet profoundly effective in addressing a wide spectrum of challenges, from social media and gaming obsessions to more severe issues such as mental health and behavioural problems.

Her work goes beyond theory, focusing on practical steps to re-establish parental authority and create a loving, Sunnah inspired home environment.

Sumbla’s approach has proven successful across a diverse range of cases, reinforcing boundaries, and nurturing strong, respectful relationships between parents and children of all ages.
