The Wee Retreat

On Friday Unity Family Services hosted “Let’s Talk Menopause” at The Wee Retreat. This free community event created a safe, open, and supportive space for women aged 35+ to learn, share, and ask questions about a stage of life that is too often overlooked.

We were honoured to welcome three incredible speakers who each brought a wealth of knowledge and practical advice:

      •     Dr Sahira Dar – GP with a special interest in women’s health and lifestyle medicine.

      •     Dr Abida Cathcart – GP with over 25 years of experience and vast knowledge of menopause.

      •     Christine Baker – Nutritional Therapist, offering alternative approaches to managing menopause through diet and supplements.

Together, they guided attendees through the physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes that come with menopause, as well as practical strategies to manage symptoms and improve overall wellbeing.

One of the most powerful aspects of the event was the opportunity for women to speak openly about their experiences. Attendees valued being able to ask personal questions, gain reassurance, and hear from others going through similar journeys. The Q&A session in particular was full of warmth, honesty, and solidarity.

Beyond the talks, the event offered a chance to connect with others over a warm cuppa. Many shared that they left feeling less alone, more informed, and empowered to take control of their health. For some, it was the first time they had openly spoken about menopause – a huge step towards breaking the stigma.
