The Wee Retreat
Unity Family Services proudly hosted an Understanding Autism workshop at The Wee Retreat, Glasgow. The session was led by Tanya Tennant, an autism training and consultancy expert with over 21 years of experience in residential and educational settings.
The workshop was designed to:
- Deepen understanding of autism and the neurodiverse spectrum.
- Explore the challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families.
- Provide practical strategies for better support in both educational and community settings.
Participants gained valuable insight into:
- The importance of creating supportive environments at home, in schools, and in workplaces.
- The lived experiences of autistic individuals.
- How to recognise and respond to different needs sensitively.
- Tools for fostering inclusion, communication, and wellbeing.
Tanya’s expertise shone through as she combined professional knowledge with real-life case studies. The session included open discussion, group reflection, and Q&A, giving attendees the chance to share their own experiences and ask specific questions.
The workshop was very well received, with participants commenting on how Tanya’s practical approach made complex concepts easy to understand. Many attendees left feeling more confident in their ability to support autistic individuals in their communities and workplaces.
