Unity Family Services recently hosted a series of cancer prevention workshops focused on raising awareness and improving cancer screening uptake among women in our communities. These events, supported by NHS Scotland, brought Muslim women together in a safe, supportive space to learn, share, and empower one another.

Studies show that cancer screening uptake is significantly lower among ethnic minority women, particularly in the Muslim community. Cultural barriers, stigma, and a lack of accessible information often prevent women from attending vital screening appointments. Unity Family Services recognised this gap and organised these sessions to encourage open conversations and provide clear, culturally sensitive guidance.

The sessions were more than just informative presentations—they provided a safe environment where women felt comfortable asking questions, sharing their fears, and encouraging one another. Many participants expressed that this was the first time they had openly discussed cancer screening in such a setting.

Unity Family Services is committed to continuing this vital work. Cancer prevention and early detection save lives, and by working closely with NHS Scotland and community leaders, we aim to ensure no woman feels left behind when it comes to her health.
